Today, Screen Share reached a new milestone of 150 laptops delivered to refugees and asylum seekers across the UK. This means that 150 refugees and asylum seekers now have the technology they need to get on in life.
We are celebrating this moment, however, at a time of deep anger within the refugee sector in the UK after the passing of the Nationality and Borders Bill in Parliament yesterday. We strongly oppose measures in the Bill which criminalise irregular arrivals, seek to send them 'offshore' to islands or countries far away, and which push forward several other objectives (including powers to revoke citizenship without notification, and extremely worrying new asylum seeker 'age assessment' procedures).
We will continue to fight with friends in the sector against not only the Bill, but the atmosphere of hostility towards refugees it represents. We fight for digital inclusion and for just asylum policy in the UK.
